Gratitude

  • Made enough money for the wife to grocery shop for the whole month and buy extra for the pantry and emergency kit.
  • Gorls played music while they played and they had a blast. We have an old phone that is dedicated for listening to music, so another little project I did that was used for its purpose and had fun with it.

Yesterday recap

Wife went grocery shopping after breakfast, so I had 2-ish hours with just the gorls. Made them breakfast while we watched WCW Halloween Havoc 1994 and then just hung out. When wife got home I helped her split things into smaller quantities and then put everything away. We do what we can to make everything stretch, so we will open certain items, repackage them into smaller quantities, and then dole them out slowly throughout the month.

During breakfast my wife and I discussed what kind of changes we are going to make to really scrimp through the winter. I essentially take Dec. and Jan. off every year, so no paydays during that time. We have two more regular paydays until that happens, so we came up with a plan to stock the pantry and emergency food, reduce energy and water usage, trim or cancel a few bills, and stockpile little treats.

For anyone who reads this, I’m curious what you would do to plan for having zero income for 2 months. How would you prepare for that?

In the afternoon we watched WWE Friday Night Smackdown from the previous night and then watched WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. Both were okay. No surprises.

In the lull before dinner I worked on setting up scrcpy on the Microsoft Surface RT. It didn’t take much work. The latest version was in the Alpine repos, so it took all of 5 minutes to installl and verify it works.

I’m almost ready, just a couple tests to go and then I’ll start configuring everything. I currently have XFCE on it and tested OpenBox. Now I want to test Sway and then make my final decision on which DE is best for this build. Then I can get down to business.

After dinner it was a “stay up as late as you want” night for the gorls. I setup a bluetooth speaker and gave them an old phone so they could listen to music while they played. The LOVED it. It wasn’t just background music, either. I think they had a whole hour that was just a dance party in their room.

Wife and I watched about half of Baaghi 4 and then called it a night.

How are you feeling today?

Content. Since the clocks went back last night I got decent sleep (even though I woke up at 6AM) and we have a busy, but fun day. Stress is lower than normal, at least for one day.

Todo

Chores

  • Week prep, laundry, and vehicle maintenance check.
  • Throw out pumpkins & put away outdoor Halloween decorations.

Fun

  • Family lunch for son’s birthday.
  • Watch NFL football with son.

Projects

  • Update Luanti & VoxeLibre on gorls computers. I wish Luanti had better auto-update features on Windows. They only have a portable version, so I need to manually update everything.
  • Test Sway on the Surface RT.
