• Made enough money for the wife to grocery shop for the whole month and buy extra for the pantry and emergency kit.

Yesterday recap

My winterizations weren’t until late morning and through the afternoon, so I had time in the morning to do some stuff around the house. I put away our BBQ and cleaned up the folding table it was on, then stowed it away in the garage. I then set about installed Fennec (Firefox derivative on Android), getting logged in, and configuring it. I ran into so many little bugs with Vivaldi and I’m happy to say goodbye.

Left for work and did my winterizations. This got me home about 5PM and I had to do some truck configuration and then did the vehicle maintenance check.

For the fourth day in a row my right hearing aid quit working about midway through the day. Well, it didn’t turn off. It is just so low it is like wearing an ear plug. If I sit in a quiet room I can hear the little beeps it makes with powering off/on. But, does nothing else. When this happens I need to take them out and takes about 4 hours for it to finally act right. So now I need to find time somewhere in my schedule to go to Costco. These hearing aids are fucking awful. I hate them and I hate that I have to make payments for two years for something I fucking hate.

There is one tire on the van that will not hold air pressure, so I gotta figure out what to do. The van is a real piece of shit, so I don’t want to put any money into it. But tires are pretty important.

We watched WWE Monday Night Raw. While watching I setup my prepper cyberdeck rig. About once a quarter I power everything on and make sure it all functions as expected.

Got the laptop on and had it sync the updates to the local files. I do not run updates on it since it has its own apt repo. It is essentially locked in time at the moment I set everything up. This is all okay because it is designed for offline and offgrid use. All worked as expected except the terminal. There’s something up with the fonts. Not a major deal, just need to make sure the $HOME/.fonts has everything and maybe install a different terminal emulator.

Onto the server. All worked as expected and was able to access all the data on the various services. One thing I realized is I need either guest access or logins for a couple of services, namely Jellyfin and Kavita. If I’m expecting folks to connect, I can’t go around and give them the creds and expect them to remember them. Will add that to the list.

After the gorls went to bed my wife and I decorated for my sons birthday and discussed the gorls doctor appointment they had earlier in the day. We are on state insurance. But, because of that, essentially no doctor office will accept us. We literally have one place to go to in the entire county and they fucking suck.

Its great that every doctors office refuses to work with state insurance. They say because dealing with the insurace is more difficult. But, the reality is they don’t want to deal with the people on it. They don’t want poor people coming into their pristine office and ruining the clientele they serve.

In Washington State we have a law that says insurance has to cover vaccines, regardless of DHS rules. Sounds great right? Its a way to fight back against RFK Jr’s bullshit. But, in practice it doesn’t work. Since we are on state insurance and can only go to a single office in the entire county we can only do what that office allows. That office does not give COVID vax because they will lose federal funding if they do. So, none of my kids have been vaxxed. Then, I can’t book an appointment at a pharmacy, say like Safeway, because they won’t vax kids. Last, I can’t make an appointment with a different office because they aren’t taking state insurance patients.

I went to bed about 9:30PM. I don’t want to live in this world anymore. Its so fucking hard to be poor. There is no way to dig out. Hard work and gumption, huh? I work 60 hour weeks and I’ve done that for 25 years. Not once have I dug myself out. I’ve tried everything. Its probably because I’m really fucking stupid. Lots of other folks can go on vacations or buy cars or even be able to afford a $15/mo. streaming service. Not me. Never me.

Chores

• 5 winterization stops.
• Take compressor out of trailer and put into truck. The stops I have for the rest of the week are all in the same neighborhood and don’t need me to have any repair parts with me. So, I can clean out my truck and only have my compressor and associated bits.
• Help my wife research a speaker for the gorls room. They are old enough now they like to listen to music while they play/hangout and we want to get them a speaker/stereo for their room for Xmas.
• Survive.

• Nothing I can think of and I tried.

Projects

• Read about configuring guest access to Jellyfin and Kavita, write up some notes, and have a plan for the cyberdeck.
