Gratitude
- It was as chill of a day as it could be yesterday. I didn’t have to go anywhere, no jobs waiting for me, and no expectations to get anything done.
Yesterday recap
For the first time in months we had no plans and nowhere to go on a Saturday and I took advantage of it.
We were up an hour or so before the kids, so we had an absolutely ridiculous breakfast. I’m a fan of occasionally having a real wacky American meal, so we had a breakfast veggie cheese burger with a fried egg and a hash brown on it (of course with American Cheese). Because of my GERD I will be paying for this for days, but it will be worth it.
Late morning I did my chores. Cleaned up the rat and then emptied out my toolbox. It rained every day last week, so the box was 1/3 full of water. I really need to find a way to fix this. I don’t want to store inside the truck, but I might have to for Fall/Spring seasons.
I then moved onto running the homelab backups. I can normally do this in about a half hour to 45 minutes, but yesterday I really dragged it out. I got distracted, played with some other stuff, forgot about it, and then finished up about 2 hours later. While working on it I started thinking about shaking up my everyday carry laptop.
Doing service work means occasionally I have these big gaps between stops. Although I’m a prepper, I realized none of my EDC or VEDC preps involve a way for me to be entertained or distracted. All the preps are either survival or how to entertain the rest of the family. Currently I’m going through my hardware pile to see if I have parts enough to make a very slim clone of my homelab, plus play some games, and have media for me to enjoy in my truck while hanging out for 1-3 hours.
I then decided I did not want to work on documentation for the cyberdeck. I’ll try again today, but no promises.
The afternoon was a blur. I don’t remember doing much other than playing with the Panasonic laptop, watching some YouTube, and scrolling on the couch.
Dinner, hung out with the gorls, and then tried some gaming on the Panasonic. I spent a better part of 2 hours trying to get my 8BitDo Pro 2 controller to work with games on Debian 12. This is why I never play games, there’s always some fucking problem and I spend all my time solving the problem.
After the gorls went to bed wife and I played the board game Calico and had snacks. We then started watching Armour of God with Jackie Chan. Man, this is one racist movie, even for 1986.
How are you feeling today?
Rested and relaxed.
Todo
Chores
- Sunday week prep. Fill pet food, charge devices, stock bathrooms, laundry, load out truck, and anything else I can do to try to make the week a little easier.
- Review week tasks and calendar with wife and make sure we have everything down for the week.
Fun
- Watch NFL football with son.
- Make a list of holiday movies to watch. There are 3 buckets: Takes place at Xmas, Xmas action movies, and actual Xmas movies. Think Lethal Weapon, Violent Night, A Muppet Christmas Carol.
- Finish watching Armour of God.
Projects
- Migrate install on the Panasonic CF-SZ5 to a Dell Latitude 7490 and test light gaming performance, battery life, and power consumption.
- Carry over from yesterday: Write cyberdeck cheatsheet. I need something in the case that has IP addresses, URLs for services, what OS on which device, guest logins, backups, etc. Probably make as a printed sheet and a text file in a NFC tag.
