Yesterday recap
After breakfast I spent a few hours in the office working on the books. Now that our season is winding down it doesn’t take as long to get everything organized, versus mid-season when I need to deal with dozens of tasks a day. Biz and rental are doing as expected, nothing to panic about at the moment.
In the afternoon I finally finished writing up the documentation for the cyberdeck kit. I didn’t want to do it, but I got it done. I knew I was going to keep putting it off so I did the “just get started” trick. Just write a few sentences or just create the file, that will be enough. And then I end up doing the whole thing. I hate that it works.
The documentation is how to connect to the hotspot, what services are running along with how to connect and a short description for each. I printed them and put into a sleeve that is taped to the inside lid of the case. I also created the business cards that has the hotspot wifi connection info, plus the URL to the dashboard. I wanted these cards so I could give them to people as needed.
Being a prepper is weird. I don’t know why I wanted to do all of this. But I did.
People always associate preppers with nutjobs that are trying to survive a Mad Max future. I spend so much time on preps because I can see how easily our house could have a personal catastrophe. I don’t think we are going to have a nuclear war. However, I do think the probability of me getting severely injured at work and then we struggle to keep the internet on, power going, and food on the table. That’s why I’m a prepper. This kit is designed to run offgrid, both the internet and from a single 100W solar panel. It will give us a small, personal internet-in-a-box even when we can’t afford to pay our electric bill. Which for my income level, has a higher probability than I want to admit.
Late afternoon the gorls and I went out front to rake up the leaves. We have a small front yard and I’m happy we have a tree. The cleanup isn’t too bad, takes about an hour. Every year I go out and rake into a big pile so the gorls can play in them for a bit. They have a blast and I’m going to be sad when they don’t want to do it any more.
Dinner, play time with the gorls, bed time, and then wife and I finished watching Funny Farm. While hanging out on the couch I picked a book, The Darkness by Ragnar Jonasson.
Gratitude
- The gorls and I had fun raking, and then playing in, the leaves. I’ll take as many of these little traditions that I still get before they age out of them.
How are you feeling today?
Not good. My GERD is out of control. I woke up twice not being able to breathe last night.
Todo
Chores
- One winterization stop. This sucks. I tried to book a full day, but only got one confirmation. Now I have to do about an hour of driving for an hour of work.
- Wife has her annual check-up after I get home.
- Need to go throug my parts bins and review our inventory for sprinkler parts. We start a new installation job next week and I need to see what parts I need to get before Monday.
Fun
- Find some quiet time to make a serious dent in my new book. There’s always so much chaos in this house and I need to force myself to find a quiet hideout to read.
Projects
- I posted yesterday that I’m not having fun with the Dell Latitude 7490 I’ve been using for my current EDC laptop. I need to look through my pile o’ crap and see if anything catches my fancy. I’m trying to be more fluid with my computers, instead of riding something for years I want to be able to switch things up and have more fun. This laptop ain’t fun.
