Yesterday recap

I was out the door early to get to my doctors appointment. It actually went better than the normal trainwreck it is to go to that office. I got a couple of referrals and I requested a full allergy test. I suspect that a big part of my GERD is that I’m allergic to something I eat, I just don’t know what it is.

Back home I washed my rain gear and got everything ready for a week of working in wet weather. I got my parts list together for my stocking order run I need to do today as well.

Through the rest of the morning and into the afternoon I worked on some office biz stuff and this E5440 laptop. The main goal was to figure out what kind of gaming it can do. I have been able to play a good selection of GOG games I have in my library, which will work for my usecase. Between having a mini portable homelab, a bunch of content for offline use, and 6-8 of my favorite old games, I have plenty to keep me busy during work downtimes in my truck.

Late afternoon and into the evening I hung out with the fam and spent some time planning out my magic routine for the talent show.

Now is the time for why we are having a family talent show.

When I was a kid I performed in a dance show after a (girl)friend asked me to be in it.

Every year at the holidays my step-dads family asked us to do performances. I would play my violin and occasionally be coerced into singing. I even did a magic show at one.

When I was in High School I was one of the popular kids. I was captain of the varsity football team, captain of the wrestling team, dated a cheerleader, and went to all the parties. This led to me competing in our schools GQ contest, which I cam in second.

An aside: I only came in second because the winner was a pity prize. The dude has competed every year and they gave him the win in his senior year. Not that I’m bitter.

I was telling these stories to the gorls and that led to my wife telling the stories about her performances in the school talent shows when she was in elementary school.

The gorls were fascinated. Out of nowhere and unpromted, child no. 3 said that we should have a family talent show since it sounded fun. So now we are having a family talent show on Thanksfgiving. Everyone is expected to perform, including my oldest and her fiance.

I have decided for my part in the talent show I will do a short magic act. I found some videos of basic tricks and I will start practicing this weekend and into next week. I do not know what everyone else is doing, but now I am stoked. I am 100% a Type A personality, so I am going to win this fucking talent show even though it is not a competition and is only our house.

After the gorls went to bed my wife, son, and I watched Rocky IV. It’s a holiday movie and I will die on this hill.

Gratitude

• I am thankful I got a regular doctor visit and actually got referrals.
• Its corny, but awesome that I am planning a magic performance at my families talent show.

Chores

• Run up to Tacoma and get parts for our new sprinkler install we are doing next week.
• Normal Friday chores. My wife is spending the afternoon holiday shopping with our oldest and she is stoked. So, I’m going to make sure I get all the stuff done while she is gone so there’s nothing waiting when she gets back.

Fun

• Practice some magic.
• Game/date night with wife. Its her choice this week.

Projects

• Start ricing this E5440. I have all the hardware laid out the way I want and the right bits are installed and configured. I want to customize this desktop into something new.
