Yesterday recap
Once again I was up early, so I got started on my chores early. I had pretty much checked off everything on my list by the time the house got moving. I then switched to getting the truck ready to hold all of us and then we headed out to the xmas tree farm.
The farm is so nice and all the people working there are super nice. It is a family that has a tree farm at their home and then open it to the public. They don’t sell the trees commercially, it is only a community thing. Most of the people working are young folks from their church. I’m not a church-y person (as if you couldn’t tell with all the “xmas” references), but I think its cool they are paying local young folk for working during the holiday season. The gorls had a minor debate about which tree we should get and it ended in a compromise where we picked a tree one liked and the other got to pick out some other decorations for their shared room.
The gorls are hyped now for xmas. We are also on countdown for our last birthday of the season. Child no. 3 birthday is the week after Thanksgiving and the last birthday of the year for the family. My kids birthdays are Sept, Oct., Nov., and Dec.. We probably should have planned that out better. But, it also makes the holiday season fun because its the holidays and everyones birthdays.
We don’t decorate the tree until after Thanksgiving, so I got it all prepared and put it in the stand, where it will sit until this Friday. The pug was freaked when I was setting up the tree, but now acts as if it doesn’t even exist. The cats are having the time of their life. One cat (Sophia) is constantly covered in pine needles from climbing around in it. Side note: Our cats are named after the Golden Girls. Right now we have Sophia and Rose. The names are chosen based on their personalities.
In the afternoon I watched NFL football with the boy and did some chores here and there. After the games I watched a little YouTube, including a video about multi-seat in Linux. I don’t know why I had never heard of this before and now I am fascinated. I wish I had known this earlier, I would have setup the gorls computers differently. I have a few small projects in mind to play with multi-seat and learn more about it. Along these lines, the same channel has a video about Proxmox VDI and thin clients. I’ve always wanted to deploy thin clients in the house, so this might be an excuse to give Proxmox a whirl.
I loaded my truck back up for work, although I am only working one day this week. I am ready for a week off.
Dinner, evening with the fam, and the wife and I watched Austin Powers: The Spy who Shagged Me. Still funny, still super offensive.
Gratitude
We’ve only had one year in our marriage where we couldn’t afford a xmas tree. Although things are hard, I’m grateful for what we have.
How are you feeling today?
down but not out
Todo
Chores
- Turn off outside water. I need to climb under the house and turn off the water to the outside hoses and the sprinkler system. Been getting a little frosty. I guess since I am winterizing everyone else’s systems I should do my own.
- Get the truck ready to handoff back to my biz partner. We had switched trucks for the winterization season. Now that it is coming to an end, I want the other truck back lol. I need to clean this one up and get all my stuff out. I have a pretty thorough VEDC kit that needs to be taken out, along with all my tools, etc.
Just want to point out that in this section I skip mentioning every day chores, like vacuuming, the dishes, etc. I only put the above and beyond chores here.
Fun
- WWE Monday Night Raw with the fam.
Projects
- I did not use a computer yesterday. Okay, I used my phone which is technically a computer. But no laptops or my desktop. However, I watched a video about multi-seat in Linux and now I have some ideas.
- Write up some notes on these small projects for multi-seat testing.
