Yesterday recap

I’m going to try to keep it short today since it is Thanksgiving here in the US.

I spent the morning working with wife to get things ready for Thanksgiving. Lots of cleaning, organizing, and food prep. We are as ready as we can be. I mean, it is literally just us and the kids, plus my future son-in-law, so we don’t need to try to impress everyone. We just want it to be cozy and relaxed for everyone.

In the afternoon I worked on setting up some games in Winlator on my phone. A few months ago I switched from the Moto Stylus 5G 2024 back to the Samsung Galaxy S10e. I wrote about why I switched and my feelings around it.

Shame and failure - Moving on from the Moto Stylus 5G 2024.

I eventually gave up on using Winlator yesterday. The S10e is old. Like, released in 2019 old. Plus, it was a mid-range phone for 2019. So, I expected Winlator performance to be underwhelming but maybe still do something cool. But, I ended up having too many problems and it ended up not being worth the effort on this device.

But this ended up being okay. I spent some extra time working on this Dell Latitude 7490. I had stopped using it because I ran into problems with the USB-C port, plus the keyboard isn’t the best. Yet, the hardware is good and it is thin enough to fit into my bag. I used a toothbrush with some isopropyl alcohol to try cleaning the USB-C port and this time it worked! Now I can more easily dock it at my desk, which will solve my file syncing issue when out and about. I can use this laptop as my EDC and primary device. EDC cause it fits in my bag and does all the “portable desktop” stuff I want. Primary because I can easily dock at my desk instead of always powering on the desktop. I’m gonna roll with it for a few days to see how it goes. I’m not sure how well I’m going to like it, but I’ll try. I can already tell long typing sessions aren’t going to be in the cards as this keyboard is hurting my hands typing this.

The rest of the day we just hung out, watched some YouTube, had dinner, and put the gorls to bed. I learned recently that wife loves Pauly Shore movies, so we watched Son in Law, which is actually a Thanksgiving movie. Its still a fun movie.

Gratitude

We are going to have a great feast for Thanksgiving. I’m happy we can afford it and that my wife is an amazing cook who will prepare an amazing meal.

I am also grateful for all the friends I made this year. I have met some awesome people on Fedi that has turned into real friends, both where we connect online only (people who live all around the world) and some nearby and I have met in person. I’m thankful for y’all. It has been a long time since I’ve had some folks in my life I consider friends.

How are you feeling today?

Ready to eat and have all of my family at one table again.

Fun

  • Watch the Westminster Dog Show with the gorls.
  • Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade with wife.
  • Watch NFL football with the boy.
  • Hang out with my oldest and the son-in-law.
  • Have a fantastic meal.
  • Watch everyone perform for the talent show.
  • Watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles as a family.
