Yesterday recap

After a slow morning I went to my one work stop. Its a rental property for one of our customers and the tenant reported a leak out in the yard. The location was suspicious because it was upstream from the sprinkler system point of connection, so it looked an awful lot like a broken mainline leak to the house.

After digging around I found the leak was actually where the sprinkler system ties into the house mainline. A poly pipe to PVC fitting broke and the water was bubbling up about 3 feet from the actual break. This happens all the time and makes finding leaks like this time consuming. Once I located the problem the fix was fast. I posted some pics on my Mastodon. I was at that job longer than I thought and wasn’t home until after 3PM. Got cleaned up and then worked on biz stuff. I needed to file our annual Sec. State LLC report, pay our November sales taxes, and renew our business license. The Sec. State website updated and now there is a Cloudflare captcha on every page. Every time you load a page a Cloudflare “verify your a human” button has to load and verify first. Every. Single. Page.

By 5PM I was done with everything and spent an hour or so relaxing before dinner.

Dinner, more family time, and then gorls bed time.

After they went to bed I worked on getting in-home streaming for games to the HTPC. Streaming worked great. But, once again, bluetooth gamepads on Linux were a pain in the ass. All the jokes about Linux with wifi, sound, and printers are a relic and no longer true. But, Linux and bluetooth? Always sucks ass.

Once I got it sorted we finished Die Hard with a Vengeance and called it a night.

Gratitude

We are still billing a good amount each week, even though we are on semi-hibernation with the biz. I am very appreciative of the extra money.

Chores

• We are expecting a lot of rain next week and since we are very close to a big river coming out of the Cascade Mountains, our little city is on flood watch. I’m gonna make sure we are prepped for power outages, internet distruptions, and travel restrictions. Basically means making sure stuff is in the right spots and battery backups are setup.
• Grocery shopping day, which is good based on the above info.
• Xmas shopping. Man, I really, really don’t want to have to drive into town. But, I need to get shopping done for wife. Or, at least started. I always find a lot of stuff for her at places like Ross or Marshall’s, which requires me to go into town 😭. If I don’t do it today I don’t know when I’ll have time.

Fun

• Game night with wife. We are gonna play Tricky Towers and maybe some WWE 2K24.
