Yesterday recap
Somehow it didn’t rain until almost 4PM. We were expecting rain all day, but since it stayed dry, we were at a sprint the whole working day to get as much done as we could. We got the point of connection done and backfilled, then moved onto a lot of trenching, both by hand and with the mini handheld trencher. Good, but exhausting.
We have three irrigation zones we need to install, plus the point of connection and the controller, which all needs to be done by end of the day Thursday. I was able to trench the entire back pop-up spray zone and carry the mainline about 3/4’s the way around the house. I also raked back about 200 linear feet of wood mulch so we don’t get it messed up when trenching later.
Initially we thought we were going to have to turn off the house water for our point of connection for the sprinkler system. But, while digging up that area, we found an old connection for an abandoned sprinkler system that has been mostly ripped out. This made the connection so much easier and didn’t have to disrupt the house water. I found it totally on accident while digging the trench line from the front yard under the fence to one of our drip zones.
Along with us were multiple other contractors doing other work and it was super fucking annoying. Everyone wanted to be in everyone else’s business. Everyone had comments with each other about how they were doing work, suggestions like they also were that kind of contractor. I hate this shit. But my partner likes to get all up in other people’s business, so I had to listen to everyone’s crap.
Just a bunch of macho bullshit.
At lunchtime my partner and I discussed some end of year accounting. We always want to spend money at the end of the year so we can bury some extra profit in the business and lower our tax burden. We don’t have much to spend this year, but we came up with some good ideas. I have been trying for the last couple years to get the business to buy my partners old truck that he used for our first few years in the business so he an get compensated for using his personal vehicle. I’m not sure we can pull it off this year. There are a couple smaller things I think we can pull off, though.
When I got home all I wanted to do was rest. So, I didn’t get to installing that new battery in my phone. But, I realized I wasn’t ready anyway. I need to run my current battery to zero and then do a battery calibration, so doing it on a Tuesday night is not the best. I’ll save this for the weekend, probably Sunday.
I still got the gorls computers updated, though.
Caught up on Monday Night Raw and then just hung out the rest of the evening. Gorls got ready for bed and then wife and I finished Red One and started Jingle All the Way.
How are you feeling today?
Better. About 80% of normal. Still waking up at night with GERD issues.
Gratitude
Glad I brought extra tools with me, including the mini trencher, just in case the weather cooperated. It did and we got so much extra work done.
Todo
Chores
- Work day. I’m thinking we will be about 80% done today, so we should wrap up tomorrow.
- Biz partner and I discussed any end of year purchases we might want to make. Doing this will help us with taxes and be an opportunity to add any tools we need. I have a few things in mind, but need to look at the books.
Fun
Play some more SSX 3. I have been messing around with graphics settings and it looks great on the TV.
Projects
I am under-utilizing the HTPC. Now that I have the basics configured and everyone is getting comfortable with it, I need to expad it to justify having a whole ass computer on 24/7 just for the TV. First, I want to expand the retro gaming with some PSX games. Then, it needs a proper gaming frontend. I’m going to research some frontends for TV interfaces today and get some notes down.
I am also brainstorming how else I can use this machine and looking for some background tasks it could handle while idling most of the day.
