Yesterday recap
We hit the ground running on the jobsite and were able to wrap up all of our major milestones before closing out for the winter. We still had about 400 feet of open trenches that needed to be cleaned up, along with setting sprinkler heads in the garden beds around the back grass. Plus, install the sprinkler controller, wire everything up, testing, and review with the owner.
There is still a fair amount of work to do out there, but now the ball is in the owners court. One landscape bed doesn’t have anything planted yet and the other needs to be trimmed back and cleaned out. Once those are done we can install the drip tubing, which will probably happen near the end of March.
So, we are officially on hibernation.
It feels weird. I know I need a break, but I have no reason to exist for the next 6-8 weeks. Anything I can do around the house requires money that I don’t have. In my 30 years of working I have pushed for better work/life balance and I finally have it. I don’t work weekends or evenings any more, plus take extended “hibernation” periods in the winter. Turns out I have no life so I never needed the balance. I know I’m complaining about something almost no one gets, an annual extended vacation for recovery. Yet, turns out what I would do with that time is spend 6-8 weeks scrolling my phone.
In good news I got my Dodge Dakota back and I did the preliminary work to clean it out. My biz partner is not the cleanest person, so the inside is quite dirty. Before I get everything situated I need to thoroughly clean the inside. I also had to haul a lot of stuff out of that last job, so I spent the late afternoon putting everything away for the winter.
I watched the Game Awards with the boy and a little with the gorls. A lot of the game trailers weren’t appropriate for them.
Dinner and gorls bed time. They had an argument while playing so we had a good hour of consoling and navigating feelings until everything was smoothed out. One thing I love about our kids is they are all willing to express themselves and speak about their feelings without hiding anything. Once they got to bed wife and I watched some of our favorite Xmas TV episodes before bed.
How are you feeling today?
Sore, physically exhausted, and GERD reappearance. Fun.
Gratitude
I am grateful to be home and on vacation.
Todo
Chores
- Vacuum out truck and wipe down dash. Then put stuff back into truck.
- Extended house chores since I’m home for the next month and a half.
Fun
Watch Friday Night Smackdown with fam.
Projects
I have been using VacuumTube to watch YouTube via the HTPC on the TV. Last night we watched The Game Awards with no issues. However, woke up today to errors in the app. Researching and it looks like this error happens to some folks and it never goes away because it is all on YouTube’s end. This is disappointing. The only reason I have the HTPC is because of YouTube. There is no way I’m going to watch YouTube with the stock app, primarily because I can’t with the gorls around. The vast majority of ads are in no way appropriate for kids. I mean, the last time I tried I got a fucking ad for mens wipes that included showing shit stains on underwear. Adblocking is a mandatory requirement. If I can’t block ads then I don’t watch YouTube. If I’m not watching YouTube then the HTPC is not needed and is another dead project.
Cool cool cool cool cool cool
