Today’s recap

It was supposed to be a slower morning. I didn’t have to be to our jobsite until a little later and I was looking forward to extra time to hang out and drink coffee. But, my oldest messaged to say the Dept. of Licensing was complaining about one of the forms I gave her for transferring the car to her. This is all on me. I initially wrote the wrong date and then wrote over it. Apparently that doesn’t work for them. So, I had to rush out and meet her at the licensing place to help wrap it up.

Once finished, I ran off to our jobsite. We were meeting with one of our HOAs and their new landscape manager. Meeting went great and I think this new person will be a good fit. We went over how we manage the neighborhood sprinkler system and what he can expect from us. Updated him on contact preferences and how the system works. It is a complicated system with three controllers, two points of connection, and flow meters for monitoring usage and leaks. After the meeting we got busy going through the system and adjusting it for when the warm season starts, which took the rest of the day.

It was cold (45F), with occasional showers. I came home freezing. We got a lot of looks for working on the sprinkler system in this weather. Reorganized the truck for tomorrow, hung up my rain gear and put a fan on them, and put my boots on the dryer. After a hot shower I had some biz books to attend to, as well as some other misc. office stuff. Officially wrapped my day at about 5:30PM.

Dinner, bedtime, and then we are going to watch Con Air (one of our faves).

Projects

Robert reached out and offered some notes on some options for updating channels on PostmarketOS with a script without user interaction. It has my brain gears turning, thinking about how I can do this. The pointers Robert sent were extremely helpful, especially for someone like me who can’t write a lick of code and really has no business near a computer 😅. I really have met some awesome people on Fedi and through this blog. Get ready Robert, I’m sure you’ll hear more from me on this project!

I think I have found some options and now I need to test. I tested some automation for daily package updates and that is working well. Now I can start writing and testing for channel updates that way these Chromebooks can be put on the stable channel. Right now the package updates are triggered with a systemd timer, inhibits sleep while running (in case the lid is closed), and notifies the user of updates in progress and when they are done. I am attempting something similar for channel updates and I think I have the framework to pull it off. I’m installing an old version of PostmarketOS and testing the channel update script I slightly modified from Robert.

Daily gratitude

  • Glad we have a good contact for this HOA.
  • So, so glad we got this HOA switched to a smart controller. Save so much walking around.
  • Even though the vehicle licensing started off on the wrong foot, my oldest was calm and collected and all business. We got it done.

Tomorrow’s big thing(s)

Birthday organization. Two birthdays this weekend, one I’m in charge of coordinating. Also work.

Loose thoughts

So tired. Brain mush. Hands chapped. Legs painin’. Moms spaghetti.
