Today’s recap

A twofer.

Didn’t write one yesterday and considered not writing today because I did jack shit. We had nothing scheduled yesterday for work, so I sat around the house with occasional yelling at an iPad (more on that below). I don’t know what to say, I did absolutely nothing, minus some updates on the homelab and the gorls school computers.

I did spend a lot of time learning about the Borscht Belt while watching Dirty Dancing with Wife.

When the gorls were getting ready for bed I played a balloon game with the littlest gorl. She was hanging out with me in my room and we started playing balloon tennis over our bed. She laughed so much I thought she was gonna pass out. I’m gonna miss this stuff in about 5 years.

Today I had a dentist appointment first thing. Got up and sat in that dentist chair for two hours while they added a filling. This tooth lost its previous filling some time ago and then last week a piece of the tooth broke off. I didn’t have any pain, but I knew it was only a matter of time. Luckily I was able to get an appointment fast and they got it fixed up today. They had to numb me three times to finally get to a point they could work on the tooth. For some reason my body was gonna fight off the drugs. The cavity was deep, so it was on the verge of needing a root canal. I’m still on the lookout for problems just in case they need to do that. Right now I’m sore and recovering.

After that I did fucking nothing. I sat around all day. Our work day was cancelled due to a contractor not finishing their part of a job and has us delayed. I mean, that is probably a good thing considering how messed up my mouth is right now. But, I’d rather be working and earning some sort of income. We are way behind on March sales and it keeps getting worse. I’ve already prepped Wife on what to expect for a payday on April 1. Its gonna be a joke just like the day.

I started posting on Mastodon again and watched a couple hours of a short order cook doing a POV of a workday.

Fuck I’m a loser.

Projects

Every once in a while I decide to make another attempt at using an iPad and every time I’m left thinking, “People live like this?” Its not just iPadOS either, its the whole iOS ecosystem. The flow goes like this:

• What to do a thing
• Can’t figure out how do thing
• Look up how to do it
• Apple people say “Oh yeah, you can’t do that. Here’s my workaround.”

Fucking hell. This is the better ecosystem? This is better than Android. Like, right now people are complaining that Android is making sideloading a PITA. Not only is there no sideloading on iOS/iPadOS, but even doing basic things is fucking awful. Not including all the nag bullshit and security theater. Oh no, turning off “Private Wi-Fi Address” can lead to tracking? Better fucking leave it on then on my own Wi-Fi network and make navigating my LAN fucking impossible. Want to turn Wi-Fi off? Of course you can’t just toggle it off in the pull down shade! Who would think that! That just disconnects for a while.

You people are in a fucking cult.

I am currently using this iPad as my “fall asleep” tablet. When I get in bed I typically start watching a show with the tablet propped on a Pillow Pad. I normally only get through about 10 minutes of whatever I’m watching (right now it is Star Wars The Clone Wars). I used to have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 for this job, but I moved that to a digital photo frame. Instead of streaming my shows from my Jellyfin server, I want the shows local on the device. No Wi-Fi needed, just in case my server is running backups or something while trying to fall asleep. Turns out the easiest way to get files onto an iPad is to literally setup a file server and download them through the browser. Or, use VLC and tell it to setup a web server and upload files to it. This is so much better than Android, where I can use OTG to plug in any portable drive or use a USB-C cable and connect to any computer and transfer files.

Yeesh.

Fucking dumbass cult.

In addition to configuring the iPad, I ran updates on the homelab and all the VMs and containers. Then I updated the gorls Win11 PCs they use for school. No issues to report, everything updated just fine. I’m not complaining about any of that.

Daily gratitude

• My new dentist and their staff are nice.
• My couch because that’s where my ass has been planted for 48 hours.
• Dentist went okay. I’m grateful for that.

Tomorrow’s big thing(s)

Work, thank God. We have a whole day booked for a system upgrade.

Loose thoughts

Still fuming about Apple devices being so fucking expensive while being an absolutel shitshow to use.
