Yesterday recap

Back to my regular schedule. We started our new install, so yesterday we planned everything, discussed the project plan with the owners, and then did a lot of hand digging. We are shifting our schedule to dodge around a gutter and drainage contractor they will have working there next week. This week will be planning and staging, then we will disappear until Dec. 1. Between now and then we have about a dozen winterizations scheduled and one small install. So far our last month of the season is one of our busiest, in both dollars sold and number of projects.

Side note: I swear this house we are working at is an exact clone of a house I cleaned in Powerwash Simulator.

Before I left for the morning I had to chat with our business insurance agent about the new bond rules for our contractors license. The bond requirement has increased and I need to make sure we are in compliance before our license renews at the end of the year.

Unfortunately, only an hour into the job the skin on my right fingertips started to crack open. This is a real pain in the ass. On my right had the skin just rips open. Not cuts, but tears. Now both my index and middle finger have painful tears, which is awful because they are the fingers I use the most. I spoke to the doctor about it and she brushed it off, saying I work with my hands and nothing to do about it.

Hit the bank and the gas station on my way home. We have been whittling down the number of unpaid invoices we have. Some people have started to receive stern emails and texts.

Got home later and only had time to clean up and start watching Monday Night Raw. I am fucking pissed at FedEx, though. I really needed parts I orderred delivered Monday and they were supposed to be delivered. But something happened and now its a big question mark for when they’ll land.

After dinner I worked on a different sync solution for my phone. The Nextcloud app can sync locally on the device, but you have to select every folder, including subdirectories. I remembered a long time back I used an app called FolderSync to do exactly this. Downloaded and configured and yup, it is exactly what I wanted. I will give it the full treatment today to see how it performs while I’m on the jobsite.

Gorls went to bed and wife and I started watching Edge of Tomorrow.

Gratitude

  • It was nice to be back working on a new install. My body appreciates doing only winterizations for like the last month, but it felt good to put in some serious physical labor yesterday.

How are you feeling today?

Better. Work was a normal day and only a small amount of bullshit happened.

Todo

Chores

  • Send off a few backflow test reports and submit our updated and renewed certifications to all the cities we work in.
  • Load up the compressor and winterization kits. I have a full day of them tomorrow. I’m just realizing I need to get some more insulation. Damn. So I’ll also need to hit Lowe’s.

Fun

  • Finish watching Edge of Tomorrow with wife.

Projects

  • I think I’m going to sell my Chromebook. Need to research where/which platform and how much to see if it is worth it. I’d like to use this money to help pay for my phone replacement.
  • Test using that iPad I abandoned as my bed side media device. I gave up on it after it wouldn’t route traffic through my reverse proxy. Currently I use my Chromebook for this on top of being a laptop. But if I’m going to sell it, I need something to replace. Using this iPad has been infuriating
