My favorite action movies - So far

My wife and I have been watching some of our favorite action movies as comfort for how stressful the last couple months have been. With work, kids (and school), one child moving out, and a couple health scares, things have been at max stress.

I’ve also gotten out of the habit of blogging since our busy season started for landscaping and irrigation. I’ve been so exhausted, both physically (doing the work) and mentally (being the owner), that I haven’t had much space to think about anything else. However, I want to get back into the habit and starting with my favorite action movies is a slam dunk.

This list excludes sports-based, comic book movies, and scifi. These also aren’t movies that are considered great. This is a list of my favorite action movies.

These are in no particular order, except the top 3:

1. Mad Max: Fury Road Although I adore the entire Mad Max franchise, Fury Road is hands-down the greatest action movie of all time. There’s nothing close.
2. Atomic Blonde I know, back-to-back Charlize Theron movies. But, what can I say? Atomic Blonde is flatout amazing. Action, setting, and music are all perfection. I’m a sucker for Cold War espionage stories and Atomic Blonde is at the top of the list.
3. Road House (1989) There’s something about the original Road House with Patrick Swayze that I can’t describe. No matter how many times I watch it, any time someone mentions it I have to watch it again. It helps that my wife loves this movie as well and we end up watching it at least 3 times a year.

I don’t have to explain myself. This is a list of my favorites, remember.

I am separating out a few that won’t make sense to most people, but I love them anyway. I am an avid fan of “so bad they’re good” movies, especially action. Below are a few movies that are in that genre and I apologize to no one for liking them.

• No Retreat, No Surrender
• Dolemite
• Gymkata

That’s what I have for now. Assuredly once I hit publish I will think of five more.
