I doubted I would get a second one of these written. Not because I didn’t have anything to share. Rather, I feared it would be a long time before I got it written and then it would have been so long I would think it would be weird to publish one so long after the first. This then causes a spiral of doubt and then it really does become too long since the last post and then its dead.

Anyway, I got it done.

Here are some links I thought were worth sharing.

  • Forever ✱ Notes - A free framework for Apple Notes. This is an interesting note taking system for use with Apple Notes. I don’t use Apple Notes, nor do I own any Apple devices. However, I found this fascinating because it proves constantly researching and testing new apps is procrastination. In reality, the best use of your time is to fully learn and experiment with tools you already have, instead of constantly trying to find “the right” tool. The Forever Notes framework shows just how powerful any app or service can be if you become an expert in it. If you really dedicate yourself to learn, practice, experiment, and keep good notes, you can do awesome things.
  • You Must Read At Least One Book To Ride. A fantastic read and fits with the point I made above about becoming experts instead of transients. This post illustrates the importance of reading books to deeply learn skills and, in doing so, is an easy way to separate yourself from others in anything. Want to become a better developer? Break into a new industry? Take better notes? Become a better gardener? Start camping in the open wilderness? Get off YouTube and read a fucking book.
  • How do you reconnect with an estranged family member?. I have written before about how I am estranged from both my father and step-father. This article caught my eye and I expected to hate it. But, it does a good job of explaining that a relationship can be reconciled if both parties want to change (not just one) and that the estranged parent needs to come to terms with their role in situation and attempt to make amends by admitting they understand how they plan to take responsibility.
  • “Back to the Future” and “The Goonies” take place on the same day. Just a fun article that proves the events in these movies happen on the same day, Oct. 26, 1985.

Some posts from my internet friends

Just a list of links from blogs I love to read and people I regularly interact with online.

App picks

  • fdroidcl, a command line tool for downloading Android apk’s from F-Droid, IzzyOnDroid, DivestOS, and more. I recently wrote about this tool to sideload Android apps on my Chromebok.
  • stew, another command line tool, but this one is a package manager for binaries. Using stew you can install and upgrade compiled binaries from GitHub with a single command instead of managing manually.
