Mini post - Fix it yourself

Posted on Mar 3, 2026

Since I’m not on Mastodon at the moment, I don’t have anywhere to shitpost and boy to I still have some shitposts. So, I’m gonna post some of them here, which is fine because then I have more room to expand on whatever has my gears grinding.

Today it is about Linux and support.

I have read/watched a few times recently folks discussing switching to Linux and they say something along the lines, “Its Linux, so you have to fix everything yourself.” Am I missing something? When Windows shits the bed (as it does all the time), does someone from Microsoft come to your house to fix it? Is there some Microsoft store that you can bring your old Acer into and they’ll troubleshoot Windows for you? Same with MacOS. I know, there’s Apple Care. Even then, you end up troubleshooting problems yourself on those machines unless there’s a hardware issue. When that happens I hear people say its hundreds of dollars to have hardware replaced in Macbooks, etc.

As someone who has had to troubleshoot Windows registry issues, I don’t know what the fuck people are talking about. Linux is the same as any other OS. It shits the bed its on you to fix it or do a new install. Don’t even say, “Well, Apple/Microsoft have people that do bug fixes on their OS.” Get the fuck outta here. Windows and MacOS are just as buggy as Linux, especially in 2026. This ain’t 2005, even MacOS is a dumpster fire.

Honestly, the most stable is probably a slow roll Debian distro with XFCE. That shit has been the same for over a decade. But then folks will say, “Its boring and ugly.”

What do you want? Do you want stability or do you want latest/greatest with bugs?

I say that and Valve is proving everyone wrong with a stable gaming distro built on Arch.
