Today’s recap
How about an average day.
Up, breakfast, prep for work. My son is supposed to be joining me today, but he forgot and slept through. I know, he’s my son, he lives with me, and he works with me. But, now that he’s an adult he needs to make sure he takes care of his own schedule. No wake up knocks from his momma, no matter how much she wanted to. It was no big deal that he missed, but it was a good learning opportunity. He handled it well.
Our job was an upgrade on an existing system and this system was a disaster. We ended up replacing 80% of the sprinklers and moving at least 50% of them to a better location. The system is in a much better spot, yet we have to come back to replace two more valves. The owner was a talker who followed us around wanting to chat the entire time. He was nice enough, but I have a major complaint. He has a big dog and there was big dog shit all over the yard. We were navigating these piles while trying to work. Luckily I was able to avoid them all. Since this was a full system refresh, we were sprinting to get it done all in one day and on budget. We wrapped about 5PM and I am exhausted.
I’m fine with all of this because I get tomorrow off and I’ve never needed a day off more than this one. As a business owner, its a “day off”. I still have a ton of office work to do and I need to finalize our personal taxes with our CPA.
Dinner, chill, and then bedtime. I’ve been playing the original Sims and my youngest has been hanging out to watch. We’ve been having fun each night this week.
We will finish watching Striking Distance tonight.
Projects
Since I’m hardly working on projects this time of year, my testing rig is off all the time and I’m worried about losing data on the NVMe. I setup a job on my UpSnap service to wake up the test machine every 7 days and then turn off after a couple hours so I can feed the NVMe some electrons and keep the data on the drive. I hate that NVME drives need to be powered on like this to keep data.
Daily gratitude
- Grateful for my sister. In the middle of a huge project for her, she is also the lead on dealing with the social worker for our dad.
- Loving my utility holster I keep on my belt. I used it a ton this week.
- Playing The Sims with my youngest has been fun.
Tomorrow’s big thing(s)
Office work. Pay B&O tax for several cities, balance the books, and then prep for my RealID appointment next week.
Loose thoughts
I am so, so tired.
