Today’s recap

Felt the effects of the time change this morning and had to really pull myself out of bed. This will be the only day it affects me. Breakfast and then out the door to our job.

Our task today was to finish the rebuild on this waterfall at the end of a stream. We last worked on this water feature about a month ago and had to hit pause due to weather and changing our gameplan. You can see the previous status from my Feb. 12 daily post. Today we only had to finish up the final falls. This is what it looked like when we showed up today.

A steep, short water fall with the bare liner showing. The edges are lined with large rocks and plants

We got all the rock we needed Friday last week and we got busy right away today. This was a hard one because its an existing water feature that we are completely rebuilding, so we have to work with what is already there as a base. It is also at the end of a long staircase and we have to hand carry everything.

This is what it looks like at the end of today.

A steep, short waterfall now covered in various rocks. Large rocks line the edges with flagstone slates mixed into the center and river rock covering all of the liner.

We created two ledges, top and bottom, to create sheets of water in the falls. The owners only run the waterfall occasionally, so we wanted to make it look as natural as possible when the water is off, since that is the way it will be most of the time.

The owners are very happy and tomorrow we will get the pump back installed and get it running. I’ll share a picture tomorrow with the waterfall in action. Once the japanese maples wake up and the water is running, this is going to be a stunning water feature.

Got home and had to load everything I had taken out to make room for all the rock we hauled to the jobsite. Cleaned up, had a snack, then started watching WWE Monday Night Raw. Dinner, bedtime, and then more episodes of The Pitt.

Projects

No projects today.

Daily gratitude

  • These customers are great. They are so nice and have asked us to do more work. We are very lucky to have so many fantastic customers.
  • Gloves. I’m thankful I spent the time to train myself to work with gloves all day.
  • Building water features is a lot of fun. We will bid on more of these.

Tomorrow’s big thing(s)

Wrap this job and get paid. I also need to drop off a vehicle title at my oldests place so they can register the car in their name.

Loose thoughts

I’m going to test just how much less RAM XFCE uses in comparision to Gnome, KDE, or LXQT. Running XFCE on these Chromebooks makes a few things more difficult, especially for averge users.
