I effing love Dex Mode

A couple weeks ago I wrote about the failure of replacing my S10e with a Moto Stylus 5G 2024. Now that I’m back on the S10e I remembered just how much I love this phone. The key feature is Dex Mode and I use it every day.

Here’s why I love it:

I can’t install Kodi on my TV. So, I installed it on my phone and configured it for watching some live streams with certain addons. Then, this weekend when we wanted to watch Wrestlepalooza, connected my phone to the TV and had a great time.
Its American Football season and my son loves to watch RedZone on Sundays. The NFL+ Premium app on Android TV is dogshit. I connect my phone, go to the NFL website, and we stream all day.
Rather than carrying my Chromebook, I threw my lapdock into my backpack for working out of the truck. We’ve been doing a lot of estimates lately and so I bust out the lapdock, connect my phone, and open our Invoicing app that I already have on my phone to use a keyboard and mouse instead of pecking away on my phone screen. No hotspot needed.
A few days ago I had a dozen or more tabs open while doing some homelab research. I wanted to save a bunch of them to bookmarks and then write notes on others. Instead of figuring out how to get all these tabs onto my desktop, I docked my phone at my desk and did everything right there on the device.
My youngest and I played Minecraft and instead of playing from my desktop and talking to each other over Mumble, I docked my phone in the lapdock and used a folding tray to sit right next to her at her desk while we played.

There’s no going back. There’s no way my next device doesn’t have Dex Mode. Although I can’t afford my dream device, I’m looking to see if I can pull off getting a refurb S23 at the end of the year.
